Another problem I have is my staff is so new I don’t know how they will react to being busy from the time we open until they get off of work and I am already getting complaints about the amount of prep work and side work they have to do before and after their shift so I need to make sure they make good money to justify all the extra things I expect them to do.  I guess I will just have to start with a lot of people and see how they do to see is I can cut down the number of people scheduled to make them happy.  I am going to tell them if they can show me they can make sure everyone is taken care of with a smaller staff I will give them more than a four table section but they will have to prove they can do it.

My meeting was supposed to start at nine but everyone was late so we did’t even get started until ten and then by the time I let the employees talk about the thing that they thought was wrong it was time to start opening the store so I figured out a better way to do this I am going to have the employees write down what they think in advance and I am going to make a list of talking points before the meeting I am also going to start the meeting at eight and then I am going to punish anyone that is late with taking away one shift for every ten minutes they are late.  I know it sounds a little harsh but I want them to look at me like a authority figure not a new friend

It is so different from Miami, down there you can sit next to a person at a coffee shop every day for a year and never have a conversation with them but here you sit next to someone at a bar for fifteen minutes and you are talking to one another like you have been friends forever.  I only found one thing I didn’t like and that is that some of the “cowboys” are really forward and they can’t believe any girl wouldn’t want to drop everything a drool all over them.

When the restaurant put out the notice that they were hiring as you can imagine with the economy being so bad we had plenty of qualified people to choose from and I guess they figured better to hire to many than not to have enough, I was told that they thought many would not show up or stop coming within a couple of days but that was not the case because it is so hard to find a job almost every person hired stayed so now it falls to me to let the people we don’t need go.  Tomorrow I have to sit down with my managers a decide who has to go and I like everyone so cutting 7 people is going to be so hard I almost want to just let them decide but I have to live up to my new title.

We had a party come in last night and it was horrible.  I knew with my servers being new that with a party of thirty I would have to put at least two servers on the party so just to be safe I put three, I don’t know how they did it  but half of the people got their food after waiting only twenty minutes and I thought everything was fine but thirty minutes later no more food had made it to the table, one of the servers didn’t put in the order in I was so mad I sent her home.  I ended up buying deserts for the whole party and giving them a promise for free appetizers on the next visit just to keep them as guests.  I guess I will just have to give them two table sections for a while so they can get the hang of it.  I don’t want to hurt their money but I also can’t get a bad reputation for not giving good service.

Enough about work though it seems like the store is all I think about even when I am supposed to be relaxing.  I think I will go take a nice bath and have a glass of the Sangria I made the other day before I went to work.  Have been looking forward to this all week thank god its Friday!

I spent twenty minutes going from site to site trying to compare prices until I got smart and looked for a site that did it for me. I know some companies will compare other companies to their prices but they usually only compare one or two and that’s usually the highest ones they can find because they want you to go with them. This site is great because they aren’t an insurance company and don’t care what company you choose. I wouldn’t want to choose a insurance company and loose out on saving hundreds of dollars a  year because I am lazy but we all know that many people do it. I’m just glad I got smart and did my shopping around even if cheap auto insurance had to do all the leg work, but that’s the way I like it all reward and no work because I work hard enough at my job.

I am so glad to be sitting at home enjoying a nice glass of wine and enjoying my first glimpse of snow. I don’t like the cold but the snow is so pretty. I think I will take this time to look at some more wedding web sites and maybe catch up on my favorite show Suits.
